CARREFOUR ARE CHAMPIONS!
The concluding round of the Magic Touch Inter Club Petanque Trophy was played out on Monday.
Carrefour won by a resounding 10-1 in their first match of the season against Liberation, and concluded the season with similar trouncing – this time beating St Mary’s and ensuring they win the trophy.
At the start of the day Carrefour were tied with Liberation club – both having 6 points and both with games differences of +11. The Carrefour team, who will be representing Jersey in the European Clubs competition in Bratislava later this month, took no prisoners and marched through losing just the one game. Credit to Richard Sowerby of St Mary’s who saved his team from the whitewash by winning his single.
Jersey Petanque club on their home terrains, beat Liberation 8 games to 3 and equalled them on 6 points. However the recently formed Liberation club secured runner up position in the table by virtue of their superior games difference of +8 to +2.
St Mary’s, while finishing at the foot of the table, did win two matches – both against Jersey PC!
