2008 Junior Championship - final round
Jacob Romeril and Stephan Tyler AND Cerys Thompson and Ashyanna Cooper
The concluding round of the JPA Junior Championship was held today at the St Lawrence home of the Carrefour Petanque club.
Jacob Romeril (12 years old) retained his trophy in the 12-16 age group with Stephen Tyler (14 years old) in his first season of Petanque a creditable runner up.
Keely Guegan (aged 12) also accumulated enough scores to place third in the senior section (7 wins -5).
In the closest of finishes in the 8-11 age group, Ashyanna Cooper (aged 11 years) just pipped 8 year old Cerys Thompson to victory; both had 11 wins of their 12 scoring results, but Ashyanna’s +49 gave her first place over Cerys’ +42.
Ten year olds Marie Guegan and Wesley Bowen also qualified for the final places; Marie in third place with 9 wins +36 and Wesley with 7 wins and +25.
A total of 25 young players took part through the 2008 season (10 in the elder and 15 in the younger group) each with some success.
The JPA will be holding a Junior Open competition on Saturday 25th October at the Weighbridge. Further details will follow or can be obtained from the secretary of the Association on 851580 or through the website jpa.org.je
