2012
Happy New Year to all our members!
Now that all the festivities have been completed, it is time to think about the 2012 season.
Licences: All those who took out licences now need to think about renewing them. I have been able to ‘scan’ the passport photos sent in to me, so will not need another one for the renewals. New licences will require a photo please. Remember the £12 cost of a licence includes the entry fee for each of the four championships; a bargain! Your licence also gives you the opportunity to enter competitions overseas where licences are required. The application form can be printed from the website (on left hand side of home page) or you can call me and I will send you one out.
AGM: Please take this as your official notification that the Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday 16th April. A minimum of 10% of members are required for the quorum; please make every effort to attend as this is your chance to offer your opinions and ideas to the committee. You will also be able to ask questions.
We have been delighted to see so many players taking up the sport in the Condor lunch time leagues, but this has boosted the total membership numbers and we will therefore need 50 people attending to ensure we have the required quorum and don’t have to all come out again at a re-arranged date!
ALL the positions on the committee are open to everyone – so if you would be interested in taking up the mantle why not get your nomination in? It is always healthy for new people to get involved. Nomination forms can be printed from the website or obtained from the secretary. Nominations have to be received by the secretary by 5th March 2012.
Propositions for inclusion on the Agenda for the AGM must also be received by the secretary by 5th March.
Please ensure all propositions have a proposer and a seconder.
I will only send out one ‘mail shot’ this year to save both costs and paper! Those members I don’t have postal addresses for: I will send the agenda and minutes of the 2011 to your team captains by e-mail and request they forward them. I will also e-mail to those members I am able to; to minimise the printing and postage.
Personality of the Year: Nominations for the 2011 award are now invited. The Award will be presented at the AGM. Please put thinking caps on and get your suggestions in. Forms on website or from me.
Championship venues: The 2012 Championships will be played at Samares Manor and at Coronation Park. The Men’s/Ladies Triples and the Open Doubles will both be at Samares Manor on 19th May and 16th June respectively. The Open Singles and Open Triples will be at Coronation Park on 30th June and 1st September. The calendar of events is being finalised and will be available shortly.
The Knock Out Cup rounds are to be interspersed with leagues matches as in previous years.
The Liberation Club are planning to hold Open competitions on 24th March and 14th April this year.
Firing Try Out: On Saturday 14th February we will be trying out the new ‘equipment’ which would be used for Firing Competitions in the future. The two sets will be laid out at the Weighbridge at 2pm. If you would like to come along and see what it is all about and/or give it a try, please do.
Inter Club League: This year’s Inter Club league matches will be held in the format used in the Euro Cup. Teams can be of either 6 or 8 players. If there are six, then at least one player must be of the opposite gender (i.e. if there are mostly men, at least one lady (or more of course) must be included. If the club send 8 players to a match, then at least 2 must be of the opposite gender). The match will consist of a round of 3 doubles with at least one mixed pair and then a round of 2 triples; again one must be a mixed team. Team captains do not have to use the same six players in the second round that they use in the first round. The club which wins the Inter Club League in 2012 will be invited to represent Island in the Euro Cup in 2013.
Inter Parish Challenge: More parishes are getting involved with petanque. St Saviour now has a group meeting weekly and is actively looking for somewhere to lay a terrain. Efforts are still being made to get Grouville up and running and St Brelade too now have plans in the pipeline. A meeting will be arranged in March to discuss the possible introduction of an Inter Parish League.
International Day: A group of year 7 pupils will be trying out petanque on International Day which is on 8th February at the Weighbridge. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Details are yet to be finalised but should you wish to offer your help please let one of the committee know.
