2011 Magic Touch Knock Out Cup
KERPLUNK WIN THE CUP!

Last evening the Magic Touch Knock Out Cup reached it’s finale at the Weighbridge Gardens.
Despite the miserable weather which kept many spectators at home, the match was watched by a hardy few who were rewarded with refreshments provided by the JPA.
Kerplunk (Ross Payne, Toby Northern, Matt Ryan and Dave Ibitson) are a relatively new team to the Magic Touch leagues and credit must go to Ross Payne who has drawn players from three of the Condor lunch time leagues together to form this very successful team. They made their way to the final by beating St Mary’s and then Lollabouts. They also had a ‘home’ advantage as they base themselves at the Weighbridge.
Their opponents were Country Gang (Mick Cotillard, Darren Le Brun, Lyndon and Joan Lewis) whose path to the final saw them beat Hawks, Wednesday Mob and then Pes PC.
The first two doubles went one to each side. Lyndon and Joan Lewis led most of the way against Matt and Dave finally wining 13-7. Mick and Darren were at 3-6 when Ross and Toby took 4 points on the next end and moved into a 10-3 lead. Mick and Darren nibbled away at the deficit coming back to 7-10 but could not avoid defeat.
In the reverse doubles Toby and Ross got off to a flying start with 5 points in the first end against Mick and Darren. They never looked back and forged ahead to win 13-1. It was much tighter between the Lewis’ and Matt and Dave, who from 3-5 down, got a 4 to move ahead at 7-6. Not to be outdone, Joan and Lyndon then returned to the lead and were poised at 10-8 to complete the win. However it was not to be as the Kerplunk pair hung in to win 13-10 giving their team a 3-1 led overall.
Toby Northern beat Lyndon Lewis in the single pulling steadily ahead to win 13-7. This ensured that Kerplunk are the 2011 Cup holders!
In the triples Kerplunk moved ahead from 4 all to lead 12-4 and seemed sure to win. Joan Lewis – the only lady playing in the final – played the last boule when the score was 7-12 and fired out Kerplunk’s holding boule, grabbing a further 4 points to bring Country Gang to 11-12. Another point in the next end brought the teams back level at 12 all. Mick Cotillard got the vital last point to get a second win for Country Gang and restore some honour in their overall defeat.
