2010
AGM coming up!
Yes, once again we are approaching the Annual General Meeting and it is time to reflect on what has gone well, what could have been better and introduce ideas for the future of Petanque in Jersey!
I am pleased to enclose a copy of the minutes from the 2009 AGM to refresh your memories on what was discussed then and perhaps trigger something which you would like to see on this year’s agenda.
It is also time to elect the Officers and committee for the coming year – remember these positions are open to all members who would like to be involved with the running of the Association. To save paper and printing I am not sending a nomination form to every member, but this can be printed from the website (‘About’ tab) or call me on 851580 and I will be happy to send you one by return.
Both motions for the Agenda and nominations forms must reach the Secretary by 8th March.
Also enclosed are the entry forms for the Island Championships.
The entry forms for both the Magic Touch leagues and the JPA Cup are being sent to each of the current team captains. As above, if you would like one of these give me a ring or print one from the website. It is always exciting to see new teams join the league; the best time to start is in the warmer summer months and after that you will be hooked and happy to continue into the Winter season!
You can enter a team for the Cup whether or not you are competing in the league; the two are quite separate competitions, though the Cup matches will be interspersed with the League matches. All will be played on Thursday evenings in the Summer and please note in the case of the Cup, fixtures are not permitted to be re-arranged.
Personality of the Year Award – remember to get your nominations in by the end of February.
Form is on website for printing or call me for one.
NEW STOCKS OF BOULES IN!!
Magic Touch has just received their new stocks of boules and equipment so now is the ideal time to go along and get anything you need! They have boules of various weights and sized from 71 to 75cm so something to fit every hand.
AND due to the number of sets sold and a slight improvement in the Euro rate, these new sets of boules are £5 less than the previous stocks. Now only £47 and they will last you lifetime!
Please be aware that while ‘leisure boules’ can be used in the Condor leagues, in all other competitions players are required to use competition boules with their details marked on them.

Next in your pack is an invitation to the JPA’s Spring Dinner. This is to be Fred’s last one as he is hanging up his apron and retiring! So do come along and join in the fun. Remember we are limited to 120 people due to the space available and fire policy, so to avoid disappointment, don’t delay in sending in your form. Every effort will be made to accommodate everyone’s seating preferences, but please appreciate that this is not always possible.
Juniors.
The details of the 2010 Junior Championship will be out very soon. If you know of any youngsters who may like to give the sport a try let me know and I will ensure I send them all the information.
INTERNATIONAL EVENT
For the first time teams from Scotland and Ireland will be coming to Jersey on the weekend of 26th and 27th June to take part in an International Competition. Two selected teams of Jersey players will also be taking part in this prestigious event. Each team will consist of 12 players who will play as triples. The competition will be held at the Weighbridge over the two days and will offer a chance to see some top players in action – a challenging experience for the Jersey players too!
