A convincing win by Jersey 30 games to 18.

The 2009 Jersey Team
Jersey retained the Inter Insular trophy yesterday with a convincing 30 games to 18 victory!
This was the first ‘home’ win for Jersey since 1997, so all the more special.
The young pair of Matthew Pinel and Marc Nicol were unbeaten as were Neil Selby and Michel Morel.
With 3 wins out of 4 were Nancy Welsh and Lawrence Rondel, Elaine Paisnel and Louie Bowen and Robert Birch and Keith Boleat.
After the first round Jersey took the early lead they had hoped for on the challenging deep gravel terrain with 7 games won of the 12.
Round two was even better with the home teams winning 8 to Guernsey’s 4 thus giving a lead of 6 games at the half way point.
Having made such a sound start, the Jersey players did not let the advantage slip and despite Guernsey’s best efforts, they were once again unable to reduce the deficit and Jersey won this round 7-5. Jersey now needed just 5 wins in the remaining round to clinch the win.
They did this in style and won 8 to finish a fine day’s play.
The in reduces the gap of wins to just two; of the 23 Inter Insulars played, Guernsey are have won 12 to Jersey’s 10 with one drawn.
