JPA Magic Touch’ Island Triples Championship – Trophy retained!

Keith Boleat, Chris Pinel and Neil Selby retained their triples championship trophy on Saturday 6th September – the first time this has happened since the introduction of Island Championships!

They beat Tony Allchurch, Joan and Dennis Le Mercier in the final which saw a terrific comeback from 9 points lead, to produce a nail biting finish. Equal third were Mike Thompson, Gill and Richard Fowler and Tony Morton, Mary and Niall Fennessy. Congratulations to them all!

St Mary’s Inter Parish Trophy.

St John were victorious this year represented by Allain Aoutin and Maurice Richard. This is the first time St John has won the trophy and indeed only St Peter has won it more than once.

The 2008 Magic Touch Junior Championship

The last round of this year’s Junior championship will be held on Saturday 20th September at the home of the Carrefour Club. They have kindly offered to supply bacon rolls (at just £1 each) to competitors and their families at the end of play while the final results are being decided. The trophies will then be presented to the winners and runners up in each group.

JPA Magic Touch Knock out Cup

This is coming to an exciting climax with Pioneers and Occidentals reaching the Cup Final.

Progress to the final;

Pioneers had a walk over in the first round as St Mary were unable to field a team.

They then beat ‘favourites’ Vagabonds in a close match, going through on points.

In the semi-final they next knocked out Les Hirondelles, who in turn had knocked out                               Outlaws in the first round.

Occidentals beat Wrinkleys in the first round then convincingly took out Grouville in the next. Their semi final against First Class was a draw. Occidentals secured their Final place by higher points difference.

The CUP FINAL will be held at the Weighbridge Gardens terrains on Thursday 18th September starting at 5.00pm. The early start is to gain the maximum light for the match.

It would be great to see lots of spectators there to cheer on the teams!

While in the Weighbridge area, why not check out the Magic Touch shop – you will be amazed at the variety of items they supply. And further more, they can embroider shirts with logos, names etc. Why not personalised team shirts for your league team?

Winter Leagues 2008/9

The winter leagues will commence on Sunday 12th October and conclude on 29th March 2009.

There are 17 teams competing; 8 in the first division and 9 in division two. Team captains will be receiving the fixtures list shortly.

Last winter’s league was won by Outlaws with Coin Tourgis runners up and Taylormade third. Pioneers and New Kids on the Block (who became Bean Around the Block this summer) were relegated to division two and Vagabonds and Grouville were promoted to the first. Good luck to one and all!

COACHING:

I am delighted to say that David Lavelle, National Coach for the EPA is coming to the Island on 20&21 September to train and examine 6 members in the hope of their becoming Grade 3 coaches. We will then have qualified coaches available to improve our skills and those of new players.

Good luck to each of the candidates!

Could I remind all members that if they have an e-mail address I can include them in all the up to the minute reports of events, results etc. Just drop a message to me at fredelaine@jerseymail.co.uk to tell me the address and I will add it to my members’ contacts.

And finally to clarify one query which arose recently:

Article 14. Positioning of the jack after it has been stopped.

If the jack, having been hit, is stopped by a spectator or by the umpire it stays where it stops.

If the jack, having been hit, is stopped by a player, his opponents have the choice of:

Leaving the jack in it’s new position, putting it back to it’s original position or placing it anywhere on the extension of a line from it’s original position to where it is found – up to a maximum distance of 20 metres and such that it is visible. (Of course this is only possible IF its position had been marked).
