The 2007 Petanque Personality of the Year
Vice Chairman Frank Morel presented the Petanque Personality of the Year Award to Fred Paisnel at the End of League Dinner in April 2008. Two nominations had been received for the 2007 Award.
The case put forward to support Fred's nomination was as follows:
Fred has been involved with all aspects of Petanque in 2007 both as a competitor and as an ambassador for the sport in the Island.
Fred was instrumental in assisting with and organising the construction of the new terrain at Grouville financed by the Chef Tenants. He has also attended all of the Junior coaching sessions, offered coaching to many players and along with Derek and Tony has drawn up the coaching guidelines which they are using to coach the young players this winter. He has cooked and overseen the purchasing of food etc. for two very successful end of league dinners which have raised considerable funds for the JPA. He also attended the promotional event in Royal Square on Bastille Day and arranged for the hoggan used to be dumped. Fred joined the selectors committee – a thankless task – and put forward the suggestion of giving a framed photograph of players competing at Samares Manor in the Island Championships as a ‘thank you’ to our hosts Mr & Mrs Obbard. He even helped put up the party tent and arranged for it to be repaired free of charge! I therefore think he truly deserves to be the ‘Petanque Personality of the Year’ for 2007.
Also nominated was Ian Foster whose case was:
I would like to nominate Ian for the title of personality of the year 2007 because I believe he is not only a staunch supporter of the Association but he has also worked hard to promote and sustain the JPA. He has helped to build the terrain on Gorey Common, he has made the score board for use at JPA competitions and he participates in all JPA organised competitions. Ian takes and interest in all areas of the JPA and he puts forward the views and aspects of the Association when appropriate. He has said on several occasions that he wants to be a REAL member of the JPA. Ian also supports his home club in very practical ways, helping whenever asked. He is a man that can be called upon to help and he gives his time and energy willingly.
Both nominees were entered under section C for:
"Their support of the JPA and the game of Petanque in general"
