Rules
- Each team to consist of a maximum of 6 players, all of whom must be affiliated to the JPA. Only the four that commence the match may play in that day’s competition. No substitutions are allowed once play has commenced.
- Each team to nominate their home pitch when entering the competition. All terrains should be up to a standard approved by the committee, who reserve the right to approve or decline a ‘home terrain’. If, due to reasons beyond their control, a team finds it necessary to change their home pitch, it shall be the responsibility of the team Captain to inform the Competitions Officer and their opposing teams of the location of their new terrain.
- Early rounds will be played at the ‘home’ terrain of the first team drawn out in each fixture.
- Semi finals and final will be played at the Weighbridge Gardens.
- Matches to consist of 4 doubles, 1 triple and 1 singles, a total of six games.
- No player may be a member of more than one team during a playing season.
- Players or teams arriving late for the competition will be subject to the penalties as outlined in Article 32 of the FIPJP Official Rules of Petanque.
- An incomplete team has the right to start a game without it’s absent player/s, nevertheless it does not use the boules of those absent. If, after an end has started, the missing player arrives, he or she may not take part in that end. He or she will be accepted into the game at the commencement of the next end. If the missing player arrives more than one hour after the commencement of the game, all rights to participate are forfeit. (Article 32 FIPJP Official Rules of Petanque.)
- The responsibility of completing and returning the scorecards to the JPA Competitions Officer is to be that of the Home Captain. The home team are also required to declare their team players first. All cards are to be checked and signed by both Captains.
- Scorecards to be returned to the JPA Competitions Officer within three days of the date of the match, failure to do so will result in the forfeit of the match by the home team.
- If a Captain finds him/herself unable to field a team for a pre-arranged date, the match will be deemed to have been won by the non-defaulting team.
- Competitions to be played on designated Thursdays, with a starting time of 18.30 hours. Timings may be varied if agreed by both Captains.
- If a match is drawn 3-3 then the points scored in each game need to be taken into consideration. The team that has scored the highest number of points from all six games will be declared the winners of the match.
- In the case where points are equal, a ‘sudden death’ playoff of one end will be played to decide the winners. Each of the players in each team play one boule and the team with the boule closest to the cochonnet when all 8 have been played are the winners of the match.
- All rules are to be strictly adhered to with the organising committee’s word as final.
- Only the team captain nominated for that match, can give advice to his/her team members from the sidelines during play, and while observing article 16 of the FIPJP rules.
