This evening’s Magic Touch knock out Cup was very closely fought between Les Hirondelles and Wrinkleys. Each team won one of the opening doubles games. Rosemary and Alf Le Masurier of Wrinkleys beating Lawrence Rondel and Nancy Welsh 13-9, but their team mates Ian Foster and Ron Le Herissier were beaten by Marion Allain and Mick Rondel of Les Hirondelles 13-2.
In the reverse doubles once again Mick and Marion won for Les Hirondelles (13-6) but Lawrence and Nancy were beaten by Ian and Ron 13-7.
With the match tied at 2 games all and with Les Hirondelles leading on points by 42 to 34 it was all to play for in the final 2 games. Captains Ron Le Herissier and Lawrence Rondel played the single game. This resulted in a win for Lawrence by 13-5, so the Wrinkleys triple team had an impossible task as Les Hirondelles were now 16 points ahead with only a maximum of 13 available. However, Wrinkleys triple gave it their all and won the game 13-1.
Les Hirondelles, who have put out both last years winners and the current league leaders along the way, proved themselves worthy champions winning the match by just 4 points from Wrinkleys who can be well pleased with their performance.
